Holiday Gift Guide for: HER

Hi everyone and welcome to the beginning of the holiday season here on Allison In Wonderland!  I’m so excited to be able to share my first gift guide post with you today!  Throughout the rest of the post, I’m going to be sharing some of my favorite gift ideas (of all different price ranges) for the woman in your life, whether it be your mom, your sister, a best friend, or a significant other.  I hope you enjoy!

1.   DIY Spa Package.  This idea is so easy!  Just head to Lush (or your favorite bath and body store) and pick out a few items; you can’t go wrong!  Grab a bath bomb, a bubble bar, and your favorite lib scrub scent and you’re good to go.  She’ll love it!

2.  A baking kit and recipe box.  This idea is for the woman in your life who is always in the kitchen, making something delicious!  Rifle Paper Co. has gorgeous recipe boxes that can beautifully accompany a winter-themed baking kit!  You can find a relatively inexpensive baking kit at Target or Walmart.  All you need are some cute, festive cookie cutters and a dough roller and your girl is set!

3.  A blanket and a candle.  I have to say, this idea is the easiest (and the coziest) out of all of them!  If you know that she loves to snuggle up for movie marathons, this is the gift for her.  Find the perfect comfy blanket and a winter-scented candle and your gift is complete!

4.  Jewelry!  This one’s a given.  Most girls love getting jewelry during the holidays but make it a little funky this year!  Try to pick out items that are a bit different than things she usually gets and that will be really special to her, like this ring and earring set from High Point Supply Co.!  Another jewelry company that I absolutely love is The Makery!  Everything is handmade and her pieces are just beautiful.  Some of my favorites for the holiday season is this fern necklace, these wishbone studs, and an opal ring!  All of them are under $30 and will add so much to your holiday outfits.  If you decide to order from The Makery, enter allisoninwonderland at the checkout where it says “apply shop coupon code” to get 15% off your order!  What a deal!

5.  Letterboards!  I think this is such a neat Christmas gift!  Letterboards have really become trendy this past year and it’s the perfect gift for the interior design-minded girl.  If you purchase this board from Letterfolk, you get the board plus 290 characters (letters and numbers) so you’ll be able to write out whatever you want!  It’s the perfect apartment/home accessory!

If you purchase a candle or jewelry (or anything!) from High Point Supply Co., enter allisoninwonderland at the spot at checkout that says “enter affiliate code here” in red.  By doing this, we can give towards ending the injustice of human trafficking and shop for a cause!

That’s all for this gift guide, I hope you got some creative ideas!  I recently shared some more gift ideas on CandidlyKeri’s blog, so be sure to check out her site as well!  Next week will be a Holiday Gift Guide for: HIM, so be sure to check back if you’re looking for the perfect gift idea for the man in your life.  Have a great week!

Sorority Big & Little Craft Ideas

Hi everyone and welcome to this week’s post!  I really appreciate you coming back because this is going to be my first DIY post!  As some of you might know, I’m in a sorority at James Madison University called Sigma Alpha Omega.  SAO is JMU’s only Christian sorority and its tons of fun!  Part of that fun is recruitment, which we have every Fall.  Included in recruitment is the dispersing of little sisters, or “littles” as we like to call them. 🙂 Throughout this post I’m going to be sharing some (I can’t share all of my secrets) of the crafts I did for our Big/Little reveal that we had this past Sunday!

The first DIY that I did was something I’ve been wanting to make for a while.  My original idea was to get a big letter initial and cover it in flower tops, but when I walked into Michaels to get my supplies, I noticed they had leaf cut-outs and thought that would be even more perfect!  So I went ahead and bought the letter initial, the leaf cut-outs, and super glue.  It barely took any time to make and it turned out so well!  It can stand alone or be hung on the wall and I just love it.  I wish I made one for myself!

The next idea I had was to make a couple cute canvases that she can hang on her wall in her dorm/apartment!  I went on Pinterest and found some cute Big/Little quotes to use and I was set!  The one I’m going to share today says, “Here’s to you, here’s to me, Big and Little we’ll always be!”  I thought that was just perfect to put on a canvas and I love how it turned out!  I used gold and black Sharpies for the lettering and just left the canvas white so it wasn’t that expensive either!

The last little gift I incorporated was a little white tin bucket and succulent that I got from Target.  I obviously didn’t hand-make either of these but I thought it would be nice to include a little something extra in her gift to accompany all the artsy pieces.  If you’re in the market for extra ideas, try finding out what her favorite kind of candy is or her favorite nail polish color to be able to throw in!

Making all of these items was a blast! Even if you aren’t in a sorority, I hope you can still take away some ideas for fall decor, decorating in general, or maybe even a birthday gift! Thanks so much for reading and I’ll be back next week with another brand new post.  See ya then!

Birthday Haul

Hey everyone and thanks for coming back to read another post on Allison In Wonderland!  Today’s post is going to be all about a few things that I got for my 20th birthday!  If you missed out on last week’s birthday post, make sure to check it out here!  I hope you enjoy!

For my birthday this year, I received some makeup items that I’ve been wanting for a while!  These products are very random but I already know they’re going to be staples in my everyday makeup routine.  Starting off with primer, I got Benefit’s the POREfessional.  This product is perfect for applying under your concealer or foundation to make your pores look like they don’t exist!  Moving on, the next product I got was the Naked 2 Basics palette.  I’ve had the first Naked Basics palette for about two years now and I have completely worn it out.  I’m someone who wears mostly neutral makeup, so these kinds of palettes are absolutely perfect for me!  The next item is my Smashbox bronzer in Deep Matte.  I think this is the product I’m most excited for!  I’ve had such a hard time finding a bronzer that goes well with my skin tone (and doesn’t look to orange-y) that I’d almost given up, so I’m so thankful I found this one!  It’s the perfect mix of warm and bold and it’s very build-able!  The last makeup product I have to share is my Urban Decay de-slick setting spray!  This is definitely a product I’ve been needing because sometimes I have my makeup on for 14 hours at a time and by the end of the day, it’s not looking so good anymore.  I’m excited to see how much this will help!

The next item I got for my birthday is a black, foldover, crossbody bag.  It’s from Nordstrom and it can hold SO MANY THINGS.  I was looking for a bag that was a little bigger than the one I already have but not so big that it was overwhelming and this is my perfect solution.  Since it folds over, if you need to take a planner or notebook with you, you can just flip it up and carry it like that; it’s awesome!

The last item on my list to share is this incredible-smelling candle.  I believe it was purchased from Target and it has completely taken over my bedroom.  I’ve used up so much of it already and I’ve only had it for a week!  I definitely recommend going out and getting one if you’re a fan of lavender and thyme.

That’s all for my birthday haul, thanks for reading!  Make sure to come back next week for another fun post.  Have a great week!

Things I’m Loving Right Now: March 2016

Hello everyone and happy mid-March!  I can’t believe almost three months of 2016 have gone by already, life is happening so fast!  For this week’s post, I want to share a couple products with you that I’ve been into for the past little while.  Keep reading to see what they are!

My top 5 products from March!

If you took a look at the picture above, you’ll see the five products I chose to include in today’s post.

The first product I’d like to talk about is a skirt I recently bought from Express.  I have an internship this summer in a corporate setting, so I was shopping for more professional looking clothing and I came across this!  What really drew me to this skirt was the fact that it’s trendy and “in” right now but perfectly acceptable to wear to work.  It’s an a-line fit and has silver buttons going down the front, which plays well with it’s rich navy color.  I’ve actually already worn it a few times (pictured below) and can’t wait for more opportunities!

The second product I’m going to share is my anti-brassy shampoo, made by Rusk.  I’ve been dying to go blonder for years but I’ve always been so nervous to do anything to my hair, so a couple weeks ago, I decided to just go for it and I couldn’t be happier with the results!  To keep my hair from losing some of it’s tone, my hair dresser recommended using a purple shampoo when I wash my hair, to counteract the fading.  After researching different shampoos, this one seemed to be the best one in my price range.  I’ve been using it for three weeks now and it’s worked exactly as it said it would, keeping my blonde ashy!  Definitely recommend this product!

The next product is my lash serum.  I was hesitant to purchase this because I really didn’t think it would work but I was desperate for better lashes.  I’m so glad I did!  It has not only made my lashes thicker, but so much longer as well!  With all the tugging on my eyes that comes with using makeup wipes, my lashes were pretty short and this serum has completely changed that!  I recommend using it for at least a month before looking for any results.

Next, I’m going to talk about Batiste dry shampoo.  I have to admit, I’ve had this bottle for about a year but never used it because it got lost in my hair products drawer!  Over winter break, I was organizing and came across it at the perfect time.  Being in college means being super busy and it’s nice to not have to wash your hair everyday.  It’s so convenient to quickly spray it in your hair and it’s like you have freshly washed hair!  Perfect for girls on the go!  I got mine from Target but I’ve seen Batiste products all over, so I’m sure you wouldn’t have trouble finding it!

The last product I have to talk about is a necklace I purchased from Nordstrom over a year ago.  It’s by the brand Nadri and still available in stores and on-line!  When I got it, I wore it all the time but soon forgot about it.  I started wearing it again this past month and wear it everyday – it goes with everything!  It’s small enough that it doesn’t get in the way but it’s big enough to add just a little something to your outfit!  I love it!

Those are all my favorite products I have to share with you today, but check back next week for another post!  Have a great day!
